Introduction to Budapest
Budapest is situated along the River Danube and is known as the ‘Paris of the East’ because of its beautiful architecture, wide boulevards and romantic atmosphere and the wonderful street Andrassy. Budapest is actually a city made if 2 cities – the historical ‘Buda’ side ( hills ) with the UNESCO listed Castle District and the newer and flat ‘Pest’ side, well known for its magnificent Art Nouveau buildings, which is the commercial and business district. Until 1873 these two sides were different cities and today they still retain their individual charm. Some people from Buda never come to Pest and the other way around.

Things to do in BudapestTake a walk down the main avenue and most beautiful street on the Pest side, Andrássy utca. Utca is the Hungarian word for street and you speak the "c" like "ts". Andrassy is Budapest’s longest and biggest avenue and is a great place to enjoy Budapest from its very best perspective. Take in the magnificent neo-Renaissance building that is the Budapest State Opera House, enjoy a drink on the popular Liszt Ferenc tér ( ter is Hungarian for square ), lined with outdoor cafes and restaurants and most popular with local. Finish in Heroes’ Square and the City Park, home to the Museum of Fine Arts, the Vajdahunyad Castle and the neo-baroque Széchenyi Baths, which is the most popular thermal bath for both locals and tourists.
For great views of the city and the River Danube take the Sikló lift up to the Castle District or just walk a few minutes up through the park. Walk around the old castle streets, visiting the Fisherman’s Bastion, the colourful Mátyás Church and Budapest’s oldest cafe, the tiny Ruszwurm patisserie that has been serving cakes and coffee since 1827. For something unusual explore the World War II Hospital in a Rock that was also a nuclear bunker and the labyrinth of caves that lie beneath the city. Eating and Drinking in BudapestBudapest is famous for its coffee houses and the city offers many grand cafes for visitors to enjoy life with a coffee and Hungarian cake. The city is also becoming renowned for its restaurants with virtually every type of international cuisine available, from traditional hearty Hungarian food to the taste sensation of a Michelin star restaurant. Especially a lot of good bistro restaurants and fine Italian restaurants.
Venue options include trendy riverboat restaurants, tiny candle-lit bistros in side streets, old fashioned taverns with Live Gypsy music and even the option to have dinner in the sky. Food is generally still very good value for the quality in restaurants; however those on a tight budget can eat fantastic Hungarian cuisine for very little in the upstairs eateries of the Great Market Hall. Most restaurants add up service fee, up to 15% so be aware of that and check it in advance. Hungarian wine is one of the country’s best kept secrets. The country has 22 different wine regions and although most vineyards don’t produce enough to export, wine lovers can sample delicious crisp whites, full bodied reds and the well-known Tokaj wine with their meals or try a wine tasting at one of the city’s open door cellars. Wine shouldn't be expensive in Hungary. Budapest weatherBudapest has hot summers and cold winters. Spring and autumn tend to be mild and rain can come at any time. In summer Budapest temperatures can climb up to 40 degrees and summer is from March till September. Last years spring and autumn are replaced by summer.
When to go to BudapestBudapest can be visited at any time of year, although most visitors may prefer the milder months of spring and autumn and summer. Winter months are good for the Christmas markets, outdoor bathing in hot spas and ice skating; summer months can be very hot but the city hosts the famous Sziget Festival in August, which is always busy and many locals will go to have holidays at the Lake Balaton so the city can be quieter and restaurants / shops closed for the summer months.

Ferihegy 2A and 2B, 2A serves countries covered by the Schengen Agreement and 2B the rest of the world.
