Bodrum has many archaeological sites and monuments worthy of a visit during the holiday, none more so than the ancient hillside theatre, which, as well as its intrinsic historical interest, also offers wonderful views over the Bodrum harbor and its impressive castle. The Myndos Gate is another impressive sight, thought to date back to 4th century BC, to the reign of King Mausolus.

Bodrum is well known all over Europe for its watersports, offering a huge array including wind-surfing, jet skiing and scuba diving, as well as the two water parks in Bodrum. It’s also a great place to go shopping, and bargain shoppers will enjoy negotiating with the local shop owners to secure the best prices. Whether you’re after a pair of Bodrum’s famous leather sandals or souvenirs to take home for friends and family, you’re sure to find something suitable in a Bodrum bazaar or boutique and don't forget to have strong negotiating with the shop owners as this is expected and respected.

For an authentic Turkish experience, be sure to pay a visit to the hamam, or Turkish Bath. Not far from the harbor, the bath is divided into separate areas for men and women, and is guaranteed to leave you feeling refreshed and cleansed all your body.

Eating and Drinking in Bodrum

Since Bodrum is situated next to the sea, it comes not as a surprise that seafood dishes here are the best and an excellent choise. More conservative tastes are catered for by a range of western European restaurants, as well as Chinese and Indian, while a popular local dish is the pide or Turkish pizza. If romance is on the cards, head for Restaurant Alley, a wonderfull street atmospherically decorated with lanterns and vines, and prepare to be serenaded by local musicians whilst you dine in a traditional Turkish restaurant for the best local specialties in Bodrum. Alternatively, treat yourself to a meal at the Marina Yacht Club and enjoy fine Turkish cuisine, fish dishes and wonderful marina views.

Bodrum weather

Bodrum enjoys nice warm weather all year round, though summer temperatures can sometimes exceed 40 degrees Celsius, which may be uncomfortable if you don’t like the heat, but close to the sea or in the sea it feels more comfortable. The summer is dry, but heavy rain showers can be expected during November to April. Anyway, Bodrum is a holiday destination for all the year.

When to go to Bodrum

Visit Bodrum between April and October for the most comfortable weather, but avoid July and August unless you’re in search of serious heat or like to spend the holiday at the beach and swimming. February is a pleasant time to visit both from the point of view of the weather and the blossoming of almond trees and wild flowers and this time is quite cheap to go to Bodrum as well.
